seven hours

Saturday was the best fall day I could possibly imagine. It was sunny and crisp and we took the baby to a harvest festival at a nearby farm, Domäne Dahlem. We saw ponies and fed goats and picked potatoes and drank fresh apple cider pressed right before our eyes. We bought the baby a balloon.

Then last night the ceiling in our kitchen started leaking.

There are very clear lines along the seams of the ceiling and walls. Water was pouring down the pendant lamp. It lasted seven hours. Seven hours. The super came by and determined that it was the upstairs neighbor’s fault, but no one has heard from the upstairs neighbor. He doesn’t answer his door or his phone, and in Germany, supers don’t have keys. It smells.

There was some talk last night of calling the Polizei in the morning, but when the water stopped actually raining into the kitchen, the idea was abandoned. I think. We haven’t heard from the super since he mercifully turned the building’s water back on. We took pictures for the landlady’s homeowner’s insurance.

Hopefully I’ll be back later today with better news and more posts on Domäne Dahlem and a few others I’ve been working on including a laughably belated storybook post. Bis später!

  2. I’m really enjoying the design and layout of your website. It’s a very easy on the eyes which makes it much more pleasant for me to come here and visit more often. Did you hire out a developer to create your theme? Outstanding work!
